About The Governor's Summer Internship Program (GSI):

The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.

About The Indiana State Personnel Department (INSPD):

Role Overview:

Are you the next Communications rising star? If so, you’re going to need the skills and relevant work experience to get your foot in the door of your first human resources job. The Communications Division is seeking a self-motivated individual eager to learn more about how Communications supports the business through effective performance project management. This opportunity is intended to:

• Introduce the intern to Communications employee engagement management skills
• Develop basic project management skills, and
• Provide an in-depth understanding of messaging HR programming and overall government work

You can expect to work approximately 37.5 hours over a five-day week.

Salary Statement :

The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those who do not hold a bachelor’s degree & $17.24 for those that hold a bachelor’s degree or higher by the time the internship starts.

A Day In The Life:

The Communications Intern will gain meaningful, real-world experience while demonstrating competency in delivering high quality work, coordinating project activities, supporting change, and interacting with people at different levels. The goal of this internship experience is to help you achieve the following learning objectives and activities while helping INSPD deliver statewide HR solutions:

Learning Objective 1:

Manage the Governor’s Summer Intern Program social media platforms and internal newsletter.

Activities:

• Assist with planning, writing and posting content to GSIP social media platforms
• Editorial planning, writing content for and working with graphic designer for weekly GSIP newsletter.

Learning Objective 2:

Manage the Governor’s Summer Intern Program after-work engagement opportunities and assist with work-hour engagement opportunities.

Activities:

Assist with the following:

• Plan, coordinate and message external GSIP engagement opportunities
• Assist with planning and executing of workday GSIP engagement opportunities

Learning Objective 3:

Support Communications team with project management, publications and employee engagement opportunities.

Activities:

• Writing and editing for internal communications
• Assisting with all aspects of employee engagement, including planning, executing, setup and cleanup of activities.

What You'll Need For Success:

To be considered for the internship, you must:

• Major in Communications, Public Relations, or a related area
• Plan to pursue a career in Communications
• Be an incoming freshman or older in college
• Have the ability to quickly learn new software products
• Have the ability to plan work using strong time management skills
• Have the ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing
• Have the Adobe Creative Cloud experience preferred
• Writing and editing skills required.
• Have the ability to create documents and presentations for various audiences via Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint

Benefits Of Employment With The State Of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
